August 10- Sierra

How I Met Sierra…

untitled

Hello, world and all who inhabit it! My name is Sierra and I am a senior at UCF majoring in Psychology, with a minor in Studio Art. My goal is to get a doctorate in Art Therapy and work in trauma and oncology departments inside hospitals. I joined Phi Lamb during the Spring 2016 semester and am 1/6th of the Pi class. I am also a member of the Starlet Knight Colorguard and march along with the Marching Knights.

I grew up in Bradenton, Florida, in a family that is strong in their faith. Every Sunday, without a doubt, we were at church, and every Wednesday or Sunday night, I was at youth group or helping to lead the youth ministry at my church. Going to college was a big transition for me. I grew up homeschooled and my only experience with actually going to school was a few college dual enrollment classes I had taken. Another part of the transition was not being around the people I always shared my faith with. Having a group of people that I could share my faith with was so important to me and I struggled during my semester, feeling like I was drifting away from God.

My first semester at UCF was packed with marching band excitement and I missed out on Phi Lamb recruitment. Luckily, I was blessed enough to live across the hall from Celine, one of our lovely Phi Lamb sisters and someone who is now one of my closest friends at UCF. She brought me in for recruitment during the Spring semester and showed me everything I had been missing so much during that first Fall. I knew during that first recruitment event that this sorority was the place for me and that I could make a home here in Phi Lamb.

My first semester was a whirlwind of excitement and happy times, from getting my AMAZING big Caroline (love you long time), meeting all of my lovely, encouraging, and supporting sisters, and rebuilding strength in my faith. Phi Lamb and everyone in it has truly been a blessing in my life and I am so grateful to have this experience. I can’t wait to see what the future has in store for us as a sisterhood! I hope that if any of you out there are even considering joining Sigma Phi Lambda, that you will come meet us at a recruitment event this Fall! We’re ready and eager to meet you, and share great times in faith and sisterhood.

Until August,

Sierra <3
